We’re incredibly proud to be supporting Team Solan and their Warriors, providing specialist hair loss and wig support to people affected by cancer across County Durham and the North East.
Based just a short distance away in Coxhoe, Steven Scarr Hairdressing has begun monthly visits to the Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust in Spennymoor, helping people navigate the changes to their hair during cancer treatment, hair loss and regrowth.
For us, this partnership is about much more than hair. It’s about providing a familiar, professional and supportive service at a time when someone may be dealing with a huge amount of change.
A Special First Visit To Team Solan
Our first monthly visit to the Team Solan Support Hub in Spennymoor was a particularly special one.
Team Solan is a County Durham charity established to support children, adults and families affected by cancer and bereavement. Its support includes emotional, physical, practical and financial help, alongside services such as counselling, complementary therapies, a beauty and wig room and a drop-in centre.
The charity describes the people it supports as its “Warriors”, recognising that every person's cancer journey is unique. During our visit, one of Team Solan's Warriors had her new wig personally cut and styled by Steven. Rather than simply fitting a wig and sending someone on their way, Steven was able to personalise the cut and styling to create a look that suited her, felt comfortable and helped her feel more like herself.
It's exactly the kind of personal approach we believe is important when working with hair loss. Steven has decades of professional hairdressing experience and specialises in wigs, toppers and hair loss solutions, alongside his work as a Master Colourist and cutting specialist. His approach is always personal, taking time to understand the individual rather than treating hair loss as a one-size-fits-all service.
At the salon in Coxhoe, clients can access discreet consultations for wigs and toppers, with options discussed around their hair loss, lifestyle, preferred style and level of coverage. Bespoke pieces can then be selected and tailored to create a natural and comfortable result.
Our work with Team Solan gives us another opportunity to use that experience to support people locally.
Supporting People Through Hair Loss & Regrowth
Cancer treatment can affect hair in many different ways, and everyone's experience is different. Some people may be preparing for hair loss, while others may already be experiencing it or beginning to see their natural hair grow back after treatment.
